Why don’t you move to Takada and pass on the history and technology that lives in the town to the future?

Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, is looking for a regional revitalization cooperation team that will inherit and disseminate the technology of the climate industry “Battens lace” in Takada, a snowy country.

Battens lace is a lace product in which a pattern is drawn with an edge decoration called a “blade”, which is made by knitting threads into a tape with a width of about 1 cm, and the inside is overlocked.About 100 years ago, in Takada, Joetsu City, a snowy country, batten lace was actively made as a job that can be done at home in the long and harsh winter.

Since then, Battens lace has been produced all over the country, but Takada is the only production area that has survived as an industry until now. However, even in Takada, the number of companies and craftsmen has decreased year by year, and now there is only one company that consistently manufactures the blades used as materials, from design to products.

Before the Japanese Battens lace is cut off, I want to inherit the technology and convey the charm!

Therefore, before the Japanese Batten lace was cut off, Joetsu City decided to inherit the technology of Batten lace, which is a 100-year industry nurtured by the snowy country, and to widely recruit regional revitalization cooperation teams to take charge of the transmission.

The regional revitalization cooperation team will operate based on the “former Imai dyeing shop” of Machiya architecture that represents Takada. We will learn handicraft techniques from Battens lace operators, hold demonstrations and hands-on classrooms, operate as a workshop such as exhibiting works, and disseminate information to the outside of the city via SNS etc.

The term of appointment is from the date of hire to March 31, 4th year of Reiwa (first year).Renewal on a yearly basis after the end date of the first year (up to 3 years). The application condition is that you can transfer your resident card from urban areas (municipalities that do not correspond to areas such as depopulated, mountain villages, remote islands, and peninsulas) to Joetsu City after hiring. In addition, a person who can move the base of life is also a condition. The number of applicants is one.The application deadline is April 6th (Tuesday).

Deputy Chief of the Culture Promotion Division, Planning and Policy Department, Joetsu City said, “Those who are willing to inherit, protect, and pass on the history of this town to the future, and based on our thoughts and local expectations, we will connect to the next generation. I would like to invite those who are willing to apply. We are looking forward to your application. “
