The exhibition of the popular “Magellanic Penguin” at the Municipal Aquarium Museum in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, has resumed on March 29th (Monday). This is the first reunion in 64 days since the exhibition was canceled due to the prevention of bird flu infection.

The exhibition has resumed for about 120 magellanic penguins. On the 29th, while many visitors were watching, we moved to the outdoor exhibition area through the hallway.

Umigatari is the largest aquarium in Japan for magellanic penguins, and you can observe the ecology of penguins up close.Visitors said, “A lot of penguins have come,” “a cute way of walking,” and “each gesture is cute.”

Umigatari has stopped exhibiting magellanic penguins from January 24th this year due to the outbreak of bird flu in Toyama prefecture.Under such circumstances, the exhibition has resumed because there has been no outbreak of bird flu within a radius of 150 km in the past month.

Yuka Katsuhira, the keeper, said, At first, I was wandering around, but when I found the pool, I started walking vigorously.”Nostalgia” and “joy of returning” were conveyed from the movements of the penguins. The breeding season is about to begin. He said that he would like to see cute chicks as well.

According to the aquarium, there were no problems with the penguins’ health during indoor breeding.
