An alliance between the sea and hydrangeas!

More than 1,000 hydrangeas are in full bloom at the Daio Hydrangea Garden in the Nou district of Itoigawa City, Niigata Prefecture.

Daio Hydrangea Garden is located on a hill along the Kubiki bicycle path in the Nou district of Itoigawa City.

A total of 1,300 hydrangeas, of 35 different kinds, are spread out over an area of approximately 1,000m2.

The hydrangeas were introduced when the late owner Takeshi Daio planted them in 1960. Even after his death, relatives and locals have been taking care of and pruning the trees like a private garden.

The flowers began blooming at the beginning of last month, and are now in full bloom on the slopes and in the shade.

From the hill, against the backdrop the flowers, you can see the symbols of Nou, Benten Rock and the Sea of Japan.

Admission to Daio Hydrangea Garden is free, but the people responsible for the garden say, “We want you to enjoy the flowers while observing the appropriate etiquette.”
