Niigata Prefecture will hold an online tour for foreigners to experience life in the snow country on Sunday, March 27. No application is required and the viewing is free.
This is an online tour titled “OLD SNOW COUNTRY”, which is conducted entirely in English, in order to let people around the world know the appeal of Niigata Prefecture, the land of snow.
On the day of the event, the participants will be able to experience the traditional life of the snow country in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, which is known for its heavy snowfall, by visiting a snow house, trying on kanjiki, sledding, and cooking local dishes using preserved food from the snow country. There will also be a performance by the Hokuragawa Taiko drummers from Joetsu City.
This project is a part of the “Japan Expo”, a national cultural program that aims to promote the cultural attractions of Niigata Prefecture to the world. The project was scheduled to include a bus tour to experience life in the snow country in Joetsu City, but it has been changed to an online tour for foreigners due to the Corona disaster.
