The spring that he loved is in full bloom!

Camellia rusticana flowers are in full bloom at the Sakaguchi Memorial Hall in Kubiki-Ward, Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. Various events are also held in line with this.

The Sakaguchi Memorial Hall is a facility that honors the achievements of Dr. Kinichiro Sakaguchi, who is known as “Dr. Sake”, a world authority on applied microbiology.

In the garden of the museum, 200 camellia varieties, which he liked to collect from all over the country, are planted.

Director Kasahara of the museum said, “Mr. Sakaguchi gathered to sell saplings when rice cannot be sold (due to a good harvest). It is loved by the local people. There is no place where you can see so many types of camellia. I want you to come. “

Due to the high temperature of camellia, camellia began to bloom around March 10th, about a week earlier than usual. The best time to see it is next weekend.

Awamori and sake related to Dr. Awamori will be on sale at the Sakaguchi Memorial Hall until the 18th (Sun) as the camellia blooms.

Admission is free on the 3rd and 4th, and special products of Kubiki Ward will be sold. On the 10th (Sat), there will be a spot sale of camellia rusticana cuttings. Until the 18th, picture books introducing Dr. Sakaguchi can be viewed side by side.
