The Unohama Onsen Color Music Fireworks Festival, an autumn tradition, will be held on Sunday, September 14th at Unohama Beach in Ogata Ward, Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. During the daytime, the nearby prefectural road will be closed to traffic for the Super Jumbo Festival & Food Truck Festival.
This fireworks display is a popular event organized by the Unohama Hot Springs Tourism Association to help visitors enjoy the long autumn nights. It is held annually in mid-September on the coast near the Unohama Hot Springs town.
The spectacular stage show, where about 1,000 fireworks burst into the sky in just 30 minutes to the beat of the music, captivates many spectators every year.
This year, a 123-meter stretch of Prefectural Road running through Unohama Onsen Town will be transformed into a pedestrian paradise, hosting the inaugural Super Jumbo Festival & Food Truck Festival.
Sixteen food trucks line the venue, offering a diverse array of gourmet foods and sweets like takoyaki, yakisoba, steak bowls, shaved ice, and skewered grilled items. On the venue stage, the Echigo Joetsu Uesugi Hospitality Samurai Corps, the Ogata Town Junior High School Brass Band, and a Japanese drum show will entertain visitors.
Additionally, a jumbo fair is being held at the nearby parking lot, packed with unique games like jumbo darts, golf darts, axe throwing, rocket launcher shooting, jumbo lucky draw, and ball targets. The popular Umi-gatarī mobile aquarium will also be visiting. Furthermore, at the “Sake Festival,” featuring a grand gathering of local sake from Joetsu’s breweries, you can enjoy tasting different varieties for just 200 yen per cup.
Each inn and the Mermaid Pavilion sells advance tickets in booklets of 11 tickets, each worth 100 yen, for use at the festival stalls and sake festival.
