Cherry picking started on Saturday, June 14 at “Yashiro Farm” in the Wada district of Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture.

Yashiro Farm is located along Route 18. There are about 300 cherry trees in the greenhouse field. There are nine varieties in total, and about 80% of them are “Sato Nishiki.

In addition to “Sato Nishiki,” there are also “Summit,” with its large, heart-shaped grapes, and “Napoleon,” with its crunchy pulp and tart taste.

The farm will also sell cherries directly in conjunction with cherry picking. Open only on Saturdays and Sundays from Saturday the 14th to the end of this month, and will close when all the cherries are gone. Hours are from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is 500 yen for those over 4 years old. Cherries are sold by weight, 600 yen per 100 grams. Eating and drinking are not allowed at the farm.

Of the nine varieties, “Sato Nishiki” and “Jaboree,” black cherries used for jam and other processing, are at their best now.

The farm had about 750 visitors in five days last year. Many years they are gone by the middle of the second week of operation, so if you are interested, please come early.
