In order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, the “Inoue Firefly Festival” held at this time of year has been canceled as it was last year, but you can watch fireflies freely.

Photo courtesy of Inoue Firefly Association

According to Mr. Higuchi of the Inoue Firefly Association, this year we started flying around the 6th of this month. The time when fireflies often fly is from about 7:45 pm to about 8:30 pm, and it is better to fly when it is hot and humid. The best time to see it is that more than 100 Genji fireflies were flying around Hotaru Park on Monday, 14th.

The peak of Firefly Park will continue over the weekend. After that, Genji fireflies and Heike fireflies will be in full bloom around the Hotaru Bridge. The peak of firefly flight changes depending on the location, but you can enjoy watching it for a while.

In addition, a volunteer firefly protection instructor is stationed locally, and if requested, they will also explain the fireflies.

Precautions when observing fireflies
・ High heels and sandals are prohibited
・ Do not carry insect repellents such as mosquito
・ Shooting is prohibited inside the venue (including lights and mobile phone lights)

Oshima-Ward Nigami firefly in full bloom
■ Best time to see: 19: 45-20: 30
■ Location: Around Hotaru Park, Oshima-ku, Joetsu-Hotaru Lectern
■ Inquiries: Inoue Firefly Association (Mr. Higuchi) ℡ 090-2522-3728

Oshima-Ward Nigami firefly in full bloom

Google Map

[1,254
473,148,33,474,127
post-9262","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-highlight","category-topic","tag-473","tag-148","tag-33","tag-474","tag-127","en-US
["GET
