{"id":3994,"date":"2020-10-09T00:00:25","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T15:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yukiguni-journey.jp\/?p=3994"},"modified":"2020-10-21T17:44:05","modified_gmt":"2020-10-21T08:44:05","slug":"echigo-tokimeki-railway-steam-locomotive-degoichi-is-used-for-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yukiguni-journey.jp\/en\/3994\/","title":{"rendered":"Echigo Tokimeki Railway<br>Steam locomotive \u201cDegoichi(D51)\u201d will be used for events!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The black smoke peculiar to the locomotive will not rise, but the whistle will sound!<\/h2>\r\n<p>Echigo\u00a0Tokimeki Railway, a local railway based in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, will introduce the familiar D51 steam locomotive at Naoetsu Station in November. \u00a0In the future, it will be used for events such as pleasure rides.<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joetsu.ne.jp\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Still1001_00001-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-124958\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joetsu.ne.jp\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Still1001_00001-2.jpg\" alt=\"Still1001_00001\" width=\"396\" height=\"223\" data-low-src=\"https:\/\/www.joetsu.ne.jp\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Still1001_00001-2-400x225.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>The\u00a0steam locomotive to be introduced at Naoetsu Station is the D51 currently located in the railway park in Aritagawa Town, Wakayama Prefecture.\u00a0 It is a train that was operated on the Chuo Main Line until 1972.<\/p>\r\n<p>According\u00a0to Echigo Tokimeki Railway, the train will be leased under a five-year contract from a company in Osaka that owns and maintains the train. It is not possible to run on commercial lines, but it will be driven by compressed-air for a distance of 100 to 200 m inside of the Naoetsu Station. \u3000The black smoke peculiar to the locomotive will not rise, but the whistle will sound.<\/p>\r\n<p>The\u00a0train will be brought in a disassembled state from Wakayama in early November.\u00a0 It will be stored at Naoetsu Station after assembly. \u00a0Currently, Echigo Tokimeki Railway is preparing to welcome the new train, and they plan to hold an event such as a trial ride in late November.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-124965\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joetsu.ne.jp\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Still1001_00002-2.jpg\" alt=\"Still1001_00002\" width=\"601\" height=\"338\" data-low-src=\"https:\/\/www.joetsu.ne.jp\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Still1001_00002-2-400x225.jpg\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>The introduction of the steam locomotive is possible due to a Japan Tourism Agency support project. \u00a0A subsidy of 20 million yen to cover transportation and event expenses has been allocated. \u00a0This year, in addition to the riding experience, they are planning events such as presenting lights on the train. \u00a0In addition, they are planning to open a permanent rail park from April next year, where visitors can enjoy the ride experience at any time.<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joetsu.ne.jp\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Still1001_00004-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-124963\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joetsu.ne.jp\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Still1001_00004-2.jpg\" alt=\"Still1001_00004\" width=\"601\" height=\"338\" data-low-src=\"https:\/\/www.joetsu.ne.jp\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Still1001_00004-2-400x225.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Echigo Tokimeki Railway President Akira Torizuka<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Akira Akira Torizuka, president of Echigo Tokimeki Railway, said, \u201cIf the whistle sounds, it will remain in the hearts of grandchildren who came with their grandparents. \u00a0I think that the children\u2019s experiences at Naoetsu Station will be remembered 50 years later in their minds. \u00a0We will preserve the future of railways in that way.
