Umitari: Penguin chicks born one after another (Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Magellanic penguin chicks were born at the Aquatic Museum Umigatari in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, and are now making energetic noises.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-284362\" src=\"https:\/\/joetsu.yukiguni.town\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Still0529_00000-1-716x403.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-low-src=\"https:\/\/joetsu.yukiguni.town\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Still0529_00000-1-400x225.jpg\" \/>This chick was just born on the 9th of this month. It is being nurtured by the parent penguins in the nest hole and growing up.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-284365\" src=\"https:\/\/joetsu.yukiguni.town\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Still0529_00003-1-1-716x403.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"798\" height=\"449\" data-low-src=\"https:\/\/joetsu.yukiguni.town\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Still0529_00003-1-1-400x225.jpg\" \/>The breeding season began in late March at Umigatari, and about 70 eggs have been confirmed so far. One chick was born on the 3rd of this month, and currently about 20 chicks have been born.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-284367\" src=\"https:\/\/joetsu.yukiguni.town\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/4a8ed13321a69a8563e61c501dcc8014-716x403.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"802\" height=\"451\" data-low-src=\"https:\/\/joetsu.yukiguni.town\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/4a8ed13321a69a8563e61c501dcc8014-400x225.jpg\" \/>Visitors <br \/>\r\n&#8220;I saw a baby for the first time. Depending on the nest, there are parents who will show you their young, so please ask the staff.&#8221;<br \/>\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-284366\" src=\"https:\/\/joetsu.yukiguni.town\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Still0529_00004-1-716x403.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" data-low-src=\"https:\/\/joetsu.yukiguni.town\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Still0529_00004-1-400x225.jpg\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Since the year following the opening of the museum, Umigatari has successfully bred for seven consecutive years.<\/p>\r\n<p>Breeding staff <br \/>\r\n&#8220;We are creating an environment that is easy for them to breed and raise their young. This year, we prepared a lot of rice straw as nesting material. The straw acts as a cushion and prevents the chicks from getting cold from the ground.
