Mizubasho (Asian skunk-cabbage) trees growing in clusters around Imori-ike Pond in Myoko City, Niigata Prefecture, are now at their best. Due to the late thawing of the snow this year, the best time to view the flowers is about two weeks later than usual, just in time for the Golden Week holidays.<\/p>\r\n

Mizubasho is a perennial plant of the taro family found in wetlands, and is also called \u201cspring fairy\u201d because it appears as the snow melts. About 100,000 plants grow in clusters around Imori-ike Pond in Myoko City.<\/p>\r\n

\"\"According to the Myoko Plateau Visitor Center in front of the pond, the blooming was confirmed on the 3rd of last month.

\r\n\"\"This year, the snow melted late and the best time to see the trees is about two weeks later than usual.<\/p>\r\n
