A one-day tour to experience the history and culture of Joetsu has started, commencing from a Japanese restaurant \u201cRyotei Ukiyo\u201d in Nakamachi, Joetsu, Niigata Prefecture.<\/p>\r\n

This tour is organized by the local Oshima Group in order for people to experience the history and culture of Joetsu, while also tasting the town\u2019s unique ingredients. \u00a0There are thirteen tours, all of which start with lunch at the Japanese restaurant \u201cRyotei Ukiyo\u201d.

Lunch will be provided exclusively for tours using local ingredients. \u00a0You can also enjoy the building which is a nationally registered tangible cultural property.<\/p>\r\n

The five keywords of the tour are \u201cappreciation\u201d, \u201cliquor\u201d, \u201ccraftsmanship\u201d, \u201chistoric shops\u201d, and \u201cGoze\u201d. \u00a0Each tour includes the Gangi (covered walkway) and Machiya (traditional townhouses) in the Takada area, in addition to visits to famous residences, and a batten lace making experience.<\/p>\r\n

One of the tours is visiting \u201cHayashi Tominaga Tei(mansion)\u201d, a designated cultural property in Joetsu City.\u00a0 You can enjoy the fermented sweets at the cafe which opened in June, while looking at the thatched roof and the garden of Karesansui (a Japanese rock garden).<\/p>\r\n

In addition, there are tours where you can experience craftsmanship. You can enjoy making coasters with the traditional handicraft \u201ckumiko\u201d at the Inomata Art Joinery Store in Kodocho, Joetsu City. \u00a0Also, there are tours where you can experience hand-copying Sutra, and Zen meditation at temples in Teramachi.<\/p>\r\n

For all 13 courses, take a taxi to get around. With the double discount of “Tsunagu Niigata Niigata Prefectural Limited Support” and “GoTo Travel Business Support”, the actual payment amount of the tour fee is from 6,890 yen to 11,700 yen, and up to half the price is subsidized. In addition, there is a cashback of 3,000 yen on the day for Niigata citizens only. Departure courses after October will even come with a “regional coupon”!<\/p>\r\n
