We are in search of waterfalls around Joetsu Myoko in Niigata prefecture.  This time, we will introduce “Arasawa Fudō Waterfall” in Uragawara Ward, Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture.

“Arasawa Fudō Waterfall” in the village of Ueoka, Uragawaraku-Ward, Joetsu City is located at the foot of Mt. Karigane, a natural park designated by the prefecture.  It is a three minutes’ walk to the waterfall from the parking lot, heading toward Kamioka.  The waterfall has a height of about 3m, and is found upstream of the Sarumata River, which flows into the Kamioka village.

The stone statue of Fudō-Myōō, which is housed on the cliff next to the waterfall, is said to have been made during the Muromachi period (1336-1573).  Fudōson is said by the local people to ward off disasters and illnesses.
